The Leading Method of LASIK Flap Creation from Technolas Perfect Vision

Technolas Perfect Vision devices have been used in more than 7,000,000 LASIK procedures worldwide, and represent the leading method of flap creation in the United States today. There is no safer flap creation technique available today. The device used by Timothy Cavanaugh, M.D. is part of a class of devices used in 75% of all LASIK procedures in the United States.

With greater patient safety than ever before, the popularity of LASIK has grown by leaps and bounds. Because Timothy Cavanaugh, M.D. is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, you can achieve the visual clarity you've always dreamed of.

The Hansatome® Microkeratome

Each LASIK procedure involves making a flap in the cornea. The flap-making device Timothy Cavanaugh, M.D. uses is called a microkeratome. After the flap is created, it is carefully lifted to allow the LASIK procedure to be performed. The laser treatment is performed to reshape the cornea to provide crisp, clear vision. The flap is gently put into place and simply heals on its own.

The Hansatome has been used in FDA studies more than any other flap making device available in the US today. More than 990 LASIK procedures reviewed by the FDA to ensure patient safety have included the Hansatome device.

For safe and effective flap creation during LASIK surgery, the Hansatome® microkeratome is a component of a time-tested and truly safe way to correct your vision and eliminate or reduce your dependence on glasses and contact lenses — all with minimal, if any, discomfort.

Hansatome® Microkeratome vs. IntraLase®

Today, LASIK flap creation can be performed with either a precision device called a microkeratome or a laser. Of the leading methods of flap creation, the Technolas Perfect Vision Hansatome® microkeratome is the nation’s most widely used. Known as the “gold standard” of LASIK flap creation, the device has been used in more than seven million procedures worldwide.

  • Studies at two prestigious research institutions, the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Stanford University in California, concluded that the IntraLase® technique provides no improvement in results over the Hansatome® microkeratome.
  • LASIK surgery with the Hansatome® microkeratome is three to four minutes faster than with the latest IntraLase® device. A faster procedure means less anxiety for you.
  • With a longer history of use, the Hansatome® microkeratome is time-tested and proven safe.
  • An IntraLase® laser creates bubbles in the cornea which help it separate the flap from other corneal tissue. This so called "all-Laser LASIK" with IntraLase® actually requires the use of a hand-held metal instrument to pry the flap open. The Hansatome® microkeratome is the gold standard of flap making technology.
